Under the Radar: Sunspel

Sunspel

I’m not inclined to admit that I’m wrong, as friends and family will testify, (so brace yourselves people).

On Friday I popped in to Sunspel on Chiltern Street having been invited to see the new season collection and learn a little about the brand. On receiving the invitation e-mail I was initially less than enthused.

Maintenance: Mr Steeds Dry Cleaners, by Royal Appointment

Mr Steeds Dry Cleaners, by Royal Appointment

I bet you’re wondering to yourself; “Where does the Queen get her dry cleaning done?”

It’s a good question, and I’m pleased to furnish the answer. He can be found in the unlikely location of Streatham, South West London, and his name is Nigel. For there you will find Mr Steeds Dry Cleaners, by Royal Appointment. But don’t fret if Streatham is a trip too far, they also have a collection and delivery service accessible online. It adds no extra cost.

Doherty Evans & Stott, Manchester

Doherty Evans & Stott

I was in Manchester a weekend or two ago for a conference, and while exploring the city I happened upon this rather nice independent gentlemen’s outfitters called Doherty Evens & Stott. Located on Bridge Street this retailer offers a beautifully executed range of luxury shirts, suits, jackets, trousers, knits and accessories to their own design and under their own label. In totality they form a perfect core wardrobe of items that are classically styled with enough updating and original touches to provide just the right measure of modernity.

Dormeuil Tonik cloth in RAF Blue

These beautiful rolls of cloth are Dormeuil Tonik. You might never have heard of this cloth before –I hadn’t until recently. But a little searching on the internet and you’ll soon realise that this particular cloth, from this particular cloth merchant, has quite the following.

King and McQueen of England: Coeur de Lion Motorbike Jacket and Harringtons

Made in Britain Coeur de Lion Motorbiker Jacket

Richard I, also known as Coeur de Lion (Lion Hearted) was the legendary King of England (1189-1198) most famous for leading the armies of Europe on the third crusades to the Holy Land. Coeur de Lion is also the name of a British menswear clothing brand on a crusade of its own, to provide British made and British designed menswear. Of their wears it was this Motorbiker Jacket which piqued my interest.
